This post was written way back in 2017 but I thought it was time to post it again considering how many clients we have at Farrow & Ball who are stumped for front door colours! As I'm sure we're all feeling too, Autumn is on the horizon and now could be the perfect time to give you front door a lick of paint before the cold weather sets in.
A new colour, be it zingy and bright or really understated, giving your front door a revamp can totally transform the look of your house and create a happy and inviting first impression. If you're looking to revamp or repaint your front door check out these beautifully inspiring front door colours below.
THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BUYING THE PAINT:
The aspect of your house and surrounding area - do you have lawns, fencing, shrubs or flowers? These are all integral to the overall exterior scheme.
The period and style of property, do you want a complimentary or contrasting look?
Pick out and pay attention to features like brickwork and period features like fanlight windows - is there a colour that will make these pop?
Full Gloss or Exterior Eggshell? - The paint finish is also a statement in itself. Full gloss is more traditional and seriously smart, perfect for townhouses. Exterior eggshell is great if you're looking for something a bit more contemporary and relaxed and will work with any style of property; perfect for new builds, victorian homes and country cottages.
So here are my top 10 favourite colours to paint your front door
1: A serious zing but I love that powerful lemon set against the bright white brickwork with the green leaves on that striking tree. It's a sunny and happy look even on a drizzly day. Try this colour match, a little less bright but still lovely.
2: I love how the pink of the door compliments the pink blossom on the tree. Try this colour match.
4: A really clean and fresh look with contemporary lighting and cool painted numbering. Try this as a paint match.
5: A pineapple door knocker, lovely. Check out this similar paint match.
6: Love the blue on blue here and with the purple foliage in the foreground, its a match made in heaven. Take a look at this paint match.
7: A bit of a gamble here but I think the green works really well with the cream coloured pillars, bold fanlight window design and brass letterbox. This is a slightly less deep green paint colour but just as lovely.
8: Pretty and feminine - I love the pastel pink door with white and light blue brickwork and the soft roses which tie it all together (when in summer of course). This is a nice similar paint colour.
9: Classic and strong with black - can't go too wrong. A nice black shade can be found here.
10: I love how the icy blue door pops against the dark black exterior. This is a nice blue paint colour.
